About Navin

Hon. Navin Dissanayake is the current Minister of Plantation Industries and a Member of Parliament from the United National Party in Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Prior to this appointment he was the Minister of Tourism & Minister of Sports and was the Minister of Public Management Reforms,  Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and was the Minister of Investment Promotion.

During his work as the Minister of Investment Promotion the Board of Investment was able to increase its investment inflow from 200 Mil to 800 Mil USD to during the two years of his tenure.

Minister Dissanayake holds distinguish political heritage, following his grandfather and father representing the Nuwara Eliya division as members of the parliament. His father, late Hon. Gamini Dissanayake, was a presidential candidate of the United National Party in 1994. He was assassinated during the Presidential campaign. His mother is Shrima Dissanayake, was a Presidential Candidate and is a lawyer by profession.

Hon. Minister Navin Dissanayake entered the politics in 2000, as a Member of Parliament, today he is a Cabinet Minister, and he stands for Decency and democratic values in Sri Lankan Politics.

He is an Attorney-at-law in the Sri Lanka, and he holds a Masters Degree in Finance and Financial Law from University of London. He is married to Dr. Lanka Jayasuriya who holds a position in the World Health Organization, Sri Lanka as a National Professional Officer and they have two daughters Samdhee 13 and Mahita 9.

He graduated from the University of Sussex in Law and was called to the Bar in the United Kingdom as a Barrister at Law from the Middle temple.

He has distinguished himself as a hard worker deeply conscious of his duties and obligations to society.

He received his primary education at St. Thomas’s preparatory school in Colombo and Secondary Education from the Royal College Colombo and Melbourne grammar school Australia.
